We have all been affected by the images and harrowing stories of the war in Ukraine and wondered what we can do to help, this is our response.
Last year Sarah and I paddled 2358km around Scotland from Berwick upon Tweed to Gretna and were humbled to not only finish but also at the generosity of business and people enabling us to raise £50,054 for causes close to our hearts (www.kayakroundscotland.com).
We have decided to attempt a sea kayak around Ireland and 100% of money raised will be donated to Ukrainian Humanitarian Appeal which the UK Gov is match funding up to £25 million. 12 million people have left their homes in Ukraine and 5 million have fled the country; the Appeal aims to help these people.
Things are moving fast as we try to get this "show on the road"; employers have allowed Sarah a 7 week break, new boats have been ordered, we are in discussions with sponsors and despite not being web developers we've cobbled this website together to keep costs down. The hope is we start paddling in early May and will post progress and everything to do with the paddle on this website. We hope you feel able to follow and support us through the challenge.
